Notes for Thomas Brown Potts: [John C. POTTS & Descendants.FTW] Thomas lived in Galesburg, Illinois in 1863. He was a coppersmith and probably a farmer, too. Thomas died in 1898 of nephritis.(2) Probate Court Records said the cause of death was Asthma.(3) Margaret was the daughter of Robert and Mary Gamble, born in Ireland. (1880 Franklin Co. O. census, p. 281C.) According to the 1910 Franklin Co. Cols. O. census, Margaret and her parents were born in Scotland. At this time, she was living in a Home for the Aged at 1776 E. Broad St. in Cols. O. Her daughter, Mary E. went there in 1920. Her sons William B. and Thomas, Jr. were living with their families in Cols. Son Issac was divorced and living in a hotel and working as an advertising agent. In 1870, Thomas was an engine builder, with real estate valued at $3500.00 and personal property worth $100.00. His younger brother, Benjamin was living with Thomas B. and his family. He was also an engine builder. They both probably worked for the family business. There were six children living at home: Mary, William, Thomas, Frank, Isaac and and Thomas' brother Benjamin.(1) In 1876, Thomas was listed in Cols. City Directory as owner of T. B. Potts & Son, Stoves, Tinware & House Furnishing Goods at 447 N. High. P.243. In 1877, he was bankrupt (see William). P.280. In 1878, he was listed at 48 Swan, doing Sheet iron work, plumbing and gas fitting, at rear of 49 E. Swan. P.322. In 1879, Thomas was selling stoves & tinware at 447 N. High; still residing at 48 E. DAILY DISPATCH & DAILY OHIO STATESMAN, Columbus, OH. Feb. 2, 1875. Obituary of Margaret A. Knoderer, eldest sister of Councilman Potts, and wife of Levi Knoderer, died this morning of lung fever. She was the mother of two children and the sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved family. Since the first of January, physicians report a considerable increase in lung troubles, guite a number having been fatal. Death notice: Knoderer-Margaret, wife of Levi D. Knoderer, at their residence, on Fourth Avenue, in the thirty-eight year of her age. Funeral will take place from third Street M.E. Church at two o'clock p. m. Thursday the 4th inst. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. |

Mary Jane was his second wife, who was born in April of 1850 in Ohio. I have found no issue from this marriage. Levi's sister: Elizabeth Knoderer and sister-in-law Susan P. Widdecomb and his neice Edna Franklin were living with him in 1900 at 150 Spruce in Columbus, O. (Green Lawn Cemetery Records and Franklin Co. Montgomery Twp. 1900 Census Records, p. 10A.) M. in 1879 and living at 150 Spruce, Columbus, O. The 1900 Census shows that Mary Jane had three children, and one living. |
