Notes for Nancy Layton: [John C. POTTS & Descendants.FTW] Nancy died between 1850 and 1860 according to the census. William remarried in 1861 to Ruthanna Hambleton. She is buried in Little Pennsylvania Cemetery with her family, next to William and third wife, Almira. I have no idea where Nancy is buried. Perhaps on the old farm without a marker. Three young children survived her: Stephen, James Henry and Mary Louise. |

E, 1st O.V.V.C.; dis. at Cols., Sept. 22, 1965; battles: seige of Kenesaw Mt. Noonday Creek, Chattahoochie River, West Point, Lovejoy Sta. Jonesboro, Roswlls Factory, Ebenezere Church, Selma and Columbus (Ga.); mem. Lyon Post, GAR at London, O.(1) Stephen attended The Academy of Central College while living in Grove City for the year 1866-1867.(2) Stephen was also a student at the Academy in 1867--1868.(3) By the school year of 1868--69, Stephen was an assistant pupil teaching Arithmetic, as while as continuing as a student while still living in Grove City, OH. "This Academy is designed to prepare students for College, as a Normal School, and to give a practical education to farmers, mechanics, etc. It is situated at Central College, a quiet and pleasant village eleven miles north-east of Columbus on a gravel-road; is two miles from the line of the Columbus, Westerville and Sunbury Hack, which leaves Columbus from the United States Hotel daily, at 2 P. M."(4) In the 1874 - 75 Catalog of Central College Academy, S. L. Huddleson, of Central College, Ohio is a member of the Board of Trustees. The school was under the care of the Presbyteries of Columbus and Marion.(5) S. L. Huddleson is on the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of Central College Academy. Layton, Carlos and Mabel Huddleson, his children, are in the Primary Department. The family is living in London, OH.(6) Stephen was a house contractor, but didn't own his home in 1910.(7) Stephen died March 12, 1911 of Lobar Pneumonia in Franklin Co. Columbus, OH. at the age of 67y. 4m. 28d. He was a building contractor living on North Broadway St. He was born 16 Oct. 1844 in Ohio (probably Franklin Co.) He was the son of William Huddleson & Nancy Layton. Information given by D. C. Huddleson (Don Carlos, his son) He was buried in Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH.(8) (1)FRANKLIN CO., O.
