Notes for Julius Rutherford: Served as a private in the Virginia Continental Line, during the Revolutionary War, and received a pension for his service in 1818. Julius Rutherford enlisted in the army in 1776 in Fincastle, now Wythe County, VA for a term of 3 years. His company, commanded by Captain Roland Matteson, was part of the 12th Regiment commanded by Colonel James Wood [son of Mar Rutherford Wood]. Julius was a member of the 2nd battalion of the militia of Montgomery County in 1781 and served under Captain Morgan and Captain James Montgomery. He is listed on the roll of Captain Morgan in Montgomery Co.,VA 4/5/1781. He fought at the battle of Brandywine. Revolutionary War Veteran pension # R.9113. Julius settled with his wife Rhoda in Montgomery County following the Revolution. They moved later to Wythe County and on to Wayne County, Kentucky. Then they moved to Knox County TN where he lived with his brother Absalom and finally moved on to Anderson County, TN where he died in 1831.
