MARRIAGE: Proven by Case #7, File 300, York Co SC

"the letter that aunt wrote was dated the fifteenth day of July last but I never got it until hear of late the reason why, it was directed to Newnan. I verry seldom go to Newnan I have my letters of late years directed to Palmetto Campbell County in conciquence of its being nearer to me that what Newnan is." (Copy of letter received from Virginia Cottrell, 2 July 1997)
BBR NOTE: Newnan is the county seat of Coweta Co, GA. Campbell Co, GA was created in 1828 from Carroll and Coweta counties and merged in Fulton Co in 1926 & 1932. On today's maps, Palmetto is located just north of the Fulton/Coweta county line on a road from Newnan to Atlanta.
SOURCE: "The ALEXANDER FAMILY, A Genealogical and Biographical Sketch of the Descendants of Eli Oliver Alexander of Cherokee County, Alabama, 1802-1961" by Robert H. Alexander -- "The author recalls the visit of a brother, Alfred to his grandfather Eli Oliver Alexander when he was still a small boy. A letter from this same Alfred, dated 1856, is now in the possession of Roy Alexander of Manlo, GA and contains several clues to other members of the family. We are copying the letter with the hopes that some of the younger generation might wish to seek further." This is found on page 49 under "Other Branches of the Family, Publisher's Notes. The envelope of the letter, postmarked Palmetto, GA and addressed to E. Oliver Alexander; Alpine P.O. Chattooga County GA is reproduced on this page; the actual letter on the two following pages.
