Researching Richard RYAN: born 7/4/1852, New York, NY; died 6/13/1922 in Austin, TX; there are two versions of where he came from that we are aware of, but neither has been confirmed; first is that he was actually born in Ireland and was lost (along with a brother) from his family shortly after arriving in New York in 1864; the second version is that he and a brother came to New York from Ireland and were indentured servants to a Jewish merchant, later, that Richard moved to New Orleans where he became a riverboat gambler and met the widow Mollie Sugars TURNER Loftin, that they moved to Sugarland Texas where he managed a large farm owned by Mollie's family, and that eventually, Richard ended up a marshall in either Victoria, Goliad, or Washington on the Brazos, Texas; do not know brother's name or parents' names; Richard RYAN showed up in 1890 US Census in Milam County, Texas, age 47, married to Mollie S., age 50, with children Fred, Ruby and Charley.

Mollie Sugars TURNER who was born in New Orleans, La in 1850. No record of her birth in New Orleans has been found; she was married to Balie P. Loftin who died on 9/1/1871 according to a Widow's Application for a Pension filed by Mollie on 4/7/1924. No record of Mollie's marriage to Richard RYAN has been found.
