* The New Jersey/New York Ferdon Family*

Updated December 4, 2001

I've elected to research my grandmother's paternal line (Ferdon) first. Arriving at this decision was easy considering that the alternative surnames included Brown, Stewart, Larkin and Ryan! When I embarked on this journey about three years ago, I never anticipated what an addictive, time-consuming, expensive, but most of all rewarding hobby this would turn out to be. The people I've encountered throughout the course of my research have all been lovely. I've discovered several new cousins along the way, and the search has resulted in my mother getting back in touch with a cousin she had lost contact with years ago.

I'd like to say a very special and public thanks to Jesse Pardon of Brigham City, UT. Jesse's book, "The Early Dutch Ferdon/Perdun/Verdon Families in America" was recommended to me by every other Ferdon researcher I have ever encountered, and is an invaluable tool to anybody undertaking research of the Ferdon's after their arrival in America in the early 1600's. Jesse himself is a gifted, warm, intelligent and very dedicated researcher and we've shared much of our mutual research and many enjoyable letters over the past months.

It is my hope that my research will benefit others researching this surname. The whole pursuit of my family history is a homage I pay to the late Beatrice Ferdon, my much loved and never forgotten grandmother. "Ga-Ga", if you are looking down from Heaven, this is all for you. I love you and look forward to meeting you again someday.
