Kent and Susan Ryals of Oklahoma

Updated September 5, 2000

Susan Walters Ryals

susan@junct.com

We are researching the Ryals and Bettes family lines in Arkansas, and are looking for information about an Isaac Bettes, physician, who married a Native American named Haddon in the early 1800s. Their child was Jesse Bettes of Locust Grove, Arkansas, who married Martha Hatfield. Susan is descended, on her mother's side, from Col. Andrew Balfour, murdered by the tory David Fanning in North Carolina in 1782. Her grandfather was Neff Sedley Shaw who worked on the Rockefeller Ranch near Greensburg, Kansas, in the late 1800s. We have very little information about Susan's father's side of the family, except that his grandfather was Nathan Harrison Sullivan who was born around 1859 in Indiana and died near Baxter Springs, Kansas. We know of a William C. Walters, born about 1855, who married Nancy Boggs in Indiana or Missouri. We would like to hear from any relatives, and will be happy to share our information.
