Jan Janse Ryckman is the first of the name found in the colonies. . . . He was born in Holland, probably Amsterdam and already had a wife, Tryntje Janse, when he arrived in Beverwyck, later to be called Albany. . . .He died before 1663 as we find his widow marrying July 3, 1663 to Eldert Gerbertse Cruyff.After Tryntje Janse Ryckman married, her new husband decided to return to Holland on 6 November, 1671. . . .before leaving, he gave power of attorney to his wife and step-son, Albert Janse Ryckman to manage his business.
