Notes for S
ARAH CATHERINE HANSON:

Notes from Marcel Lionel Sabourin:
Sarah Hanson (Ennson)'s parents were Jean (John) Hanson (Ennson) and Elisabeth Midar (Meader) from the Village of Touba, Goverment of Boston (Dover, New Hampshire).

Sarah was baptised as a Roman Catholic at Oka, Québec, on July 21, 1727 and given the name of Catherine. Godparents were the Sieur Paul Guillet, Montréal
Island Merchant, and mademoiselle Chatherine Montigny, wife of Sieur Guillet.

When the father John was away from their cabin on August 7, 1724, Indians entered and killed two children, then Kidnapped the mother, Sarah and other children, and forced them on a long 26 day march to Quebec. The husband John, went to Ville Marie (Montreal) in the summer of 1725. Seven year old son Daniel, a younger daughter and a baby were sucesfuly ransomed, but Sarah then 14 or 15 years old could not be redeemed! Sarah was called Kigilek-Weet (meaning she who burns the food) by her captor indians. Later on, Priests were able to obtain the release of Sarah and others by bartering.

A detailed account of the indian raid and abduction is given by Elisabeth, Sarah's mother, in a book called "New England Captives Carried to Canada
which can be obtained at the Canadian National Archives inOttawa, Ontario.

Cyprien Tanguay recorded her name as Sarah Enneson. Marriage notes are also recorded as married at Oka, Quebec.[Brøderbund Family Archive #118, Ed. 1, Canadian Genealogy Index, 1600s - 1900s, Date of Import: Jul 30, 1998, Internal Ref. #1.118.1.25868.8]

Also in the gedcom of K.M. Monahan. She refers to the family name as Rising.

He wanted to become a priest, but because of the vacancy of the Bishop, he would have had to study in France, so he got married instead. He inherited his fathers land holdings in Oka and became a farmer. The local Iroquois natives held him in high esteem, naming him "Satewas" meaning "it is the same". He and his wife Charlotte Sabourin had 12 children, eight or their daughters became "Nuns".

Jennifer Sneirson states that his first marriage was to Marie Louise Amable Sabourin, and she gives her birth date as Sept. 12, 1767 in Oka. I cannot find any other evidence to support this first marriage.
