James JAMIESON was born (undocumented) in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland circa 1833. There, in All Saints Catholic Church on August 15, 1859 he married Mary Jane MACCORLEY DUFFIN. This marriage is recorded in the church files. The family spent most of their time afterwards, in Greenock, Scotland where most of the children were born. James worked at various times as a coal dealer, sugar house labourer and a merchant seaman. The children of James and Mary Jane were: James (1863), Mary Jane (1865) m. James DENNY (or DENNEY), Robert (1869) (my grandfather), m. Mary FLYNN (1878) of Kalamazoo, MI, John (1872), Ella (or Ann 1876), Tessie (1877) and Willaim (1879). Mary Jane Jamieson died in 1884 and is buried in Greenock Cemetary. After her death my grandfather, Robert Jamieson came to the USA and in a few years had saved the money to bring the rest of the family over. (Except the Denny's - they stayed in Scotland)[I would love to find this family even now!] Most of the next generation was raised in the Chicago, Illinois area. Through my research, I have discovered that this family of Jamieson's was not always Catholic, so don't let the above reference to the Catholic Church predispose you. Apparently many Jamieson's were Presbyterians. THE KEANES Maurice Keane was born cira 1865 in Castlemahan, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Castlemahon is the new name - it used to be called Mahoonagh. Maurice emmigrated to Chicago, Illinois with his family (at this time it is not known if the entire family came). He worked for the railroad until his death, supposedly from an accident at work in 1901. Other surnames being researched: MacCorley (MacCarley - Carley), Duffin, MacElderry, (Mc)Gaughan, Denny (Denney), Flynn, MacShanley, MacGuire, Lyons, Rowley, Connors, White, Keane, O'Leary, Fitzpatrick, Kelly, and Higgins. |
