CHRISTIAN SADLER HISTORY

Christian Sadler (Saddler or Stadler) was supposedly born in Germany and immigrated to the United States through the Port of Philadelphia aboard the "Robert and Alice" in 1738. It is believed that at this time his name was Christian Stadler and he dropped the "t" shortly after arriving in Pennsylvania. He then settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and became a farmer. He married Anna Marie Catherine Foltz (Folk or Foulk) on October 22, 1744 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster City, Pennsylvania. They had two children -- Jacob and Mary. Christian died on September 5, 1779 in Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is unknown when or where Anna Marie died. I have searched for Christian's grave site in Lancaster County but have been unable to locate it. He bought a plantation called in Donegal Township for 15 pounds on September 5, 1767. He also bought property in Elizabeth Township for Eleven Pounds, Ten Shillings on May 4, 1768. The Lancaster County Tax rolls show that Christian owned property in Donegal Township in 1770. Christian also was appointed guardian of Margaret Foulk and later was summoned by the Orphans Court of Lancaster County for giving no money for security. Christian served as private (unit unknown) in the Revolutionary War. In his will Christian gave Ten Pounds to the Lutheran Church at Elizabeth Town in Mountjoy Township and the remainder of his estate and property went to his wife Anna Marie.
