| Researching the above mentioned Surnames among others. My Sahm line originated in Jügesheim, Hesse-Darmstadt. The Lemke's were from "near Düsseldorf". The Sahm's landed in this country circa 1850--spent enough time in Pittsburg that my greatgrandfather was born there in December of 1850, the family then settled in Dubois County, Indiana. The Lemke's came over circa 1864 and settled first in the St. Louis, Missouri area, then southeastern Iowa, then on to the Lawrence, Nebraska area. One brother, Richard, moved to the Effingham, Kansas area in 1900. Klara (Oestreich) Sahm was from southern Indiana, the daughter of Johann and Elizabeth (Buechlein) Oestreicher who lived in variously West Virginia and southern Indiana. The Munsey,Powell,Cox, Duckworth, Williams, Smith lines are from West Virginia and go way back in this country. |
