FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. A. W. PAULSON MON.
Funeral
services were held from the Methodist church in Staples Monday
afternoon for Mrs. A. W. Paulson, age past 67 who died at her home
here at 7:45 o'clock Friday morning, March 3, 1944. Mrs.
Paulson had suffered a paralytic stroke last June, and had been in
frail health since that time. Her death was very sudden.
Mrs.
Paulson was born Dora Louise Johnson, the daughter of Sever L., and
Bertha Johnson, on May 12, 1876. Her birthplace was at
Owatonna. The family later moved to a farm near Sabin,
Minnesota, where here [sic] childhood years were spent. She was
educated in the rural schools near there, and later was graduated
from the Moorhead State Teachers Collegt [sic]. She taught
school in that vicinity for a number of years, and she later help the
principalships in schools at Moorhead, Royalton, Morris, and in the
grade school in Staples.
In 1903 she was married to Lars
Salsberg[sic] of Davenport, North Dakota, and he died two years
later. In 1908 she was married to A. W. Paulson of Fargo, and a
short time after that they moved to Staples where she had since made
her home. Mr. Paulson died October 7, 1943.
Mrs.
Paulson had always been an active worker in promoting the welfare of
the Staples community. She was a member of the Orchid Chapter
of the Order of Eastern Star, the Methodist church and its Women's
Society of Christian Service and Mission groups, the Women's Relief
Corps, a past president of the Study Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of
the Eagles, and was the founder and organizer of the Loyal Temperance
Legion, as well as a staunch member of the W. C. T. U.
Her
activities carried her into the Red Cross work, and for several years
she was chairman of the local chapter, later sponsoring the home
nursing courses. She was prominently identified with the county
welfare board and worked diligently in any way possible for the
benefit of whose people who were in need.
Surviving her are
her son, Herbert L. Salberg, of Chicago, and a daughter, Helen Anne
Paulson, of Staples. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs.
H. C. Hanson, and a brother, Alvin C. Johnson, both of St.
Cloud.
Funeral services were in charge of Reverend James
Standring of the Staples Methodist church. He was assisted by
members of the church choir.
Following the funeral sermon,
the Orchid Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Staples, conducted
their burial ritees [sic] in the church. Burial was made in the
Evergreen cemetery of Staples, with Otto Tronson, Paul Rice, Harry
Peterson, P.M. Atwood, Louis Grant, and B. D. Jaquiss as
pallbearers.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the last
rites were Mrs. H. C. Hanson and Alvin Johnson, of St. Cloud; Mrs.
Dorothy Hubachet, of Sand Point, Idaho; Christian Jensen of Sidney,
Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Paulson of Wadena; Mrs. H. J. Preston of
Menahga; and her son, H. L. Salsberg [sic] of Chicago, Illinois.
Friends who came from a distance were Mrs. James Phillips of Fargo,
Mrs. Margarette Ball Dickson of Odessa.
