Notes for William Dowell:

My GGGGGG grandfather, William Dowell, was born in Painswick, England in the year 1683. According to records from Surry County, Virginia Colonists he came to the Colony on the ship Hampshire as an indentured servant to John Hancock in 1695 at the age of twelve. Other records indicate he was on the south side of Nattoway in 1714. William was located in records of Dettingen Parish, Prince William County, Virginia in December of 1756, where he had awarded his son, Thomas, 267 pounds of tobacco in return for caring for William in his old age. It is believed that William died in Prince William County, Virginia not long after this award to Thomas.

It is not known at this time who William's bride was or the number of children they may have had. However, one of their sons, my GGGGG grandfather, Thomas, was born about 1700 in Prince Edward County, Va., and died September 06, 1769 in Bedford County, Va.

Child of William Dowell and Unknown is:
+ 2 i.   Thomas2 Dowell, born Abt. 1700 in Prince Edward Co.,VA; died September 06, 1769 in Bedford Co., VA.
