Sargeant & Gordon Ontario Canadians
In a smoky weaving village in Lancashire England, a 12 year old boy waved goodbye forever to his widowed mother and set out with a group of weavers to Canada. After a long voyage on a screeching, stinking sailing vessel, he landed at Halifax Nova Scotia and began the trek to Elora Ontario with the Wm Ormandy Family. When a road was punched through the wilderness to Owen Sound, he and the Ormandys made the trek to Owen Sound and there he settled in to make a life for himself. This is the story of his descendants, their eventual link up to the Gordon and Atkinson families and the present life of these descendants in Ontario Canada. I'm sure Jesse would be most proud and probably astonished at some of the things his descendants have accomplished. These are the details. This isn't only the Sargeant story, but includes the Tippings from Ireland, the Gordons from Scotland, the Bakers from Pennsylvania, the Micks from England and the Atkinsons from England. If you find in your reading of this story, any inaccuracies they are the compiler's and I would sincerely request that you tell me of them. I will do my best to make corrections. This is a work in progress and not "the final word" on the topic by any means. John P Sargeant | Sargeant & Gordon Ontario Canadians Updated March 31, 2008 |
