Biographical Details
Henry was the illegitimate son of Henry Fairfax and Margery Lavers, and was given his father's surname at his baptism in Holbeton on the 12th December 1819. On the 19th March 1843, he married Elizabeth Charlotte Patterson at the parish church of Stoke Dameret, Devon.
Henry Fairfax worked as an Engine Driver at the Sugar Refinery in Plymouth owned by Sir James Bryant. Sir James sold the refinery, and when he joined with Maye to form the Bryant & Maye Factory at Bow, Henry and Elizabeth followed to London in 1863. Shortly after this the Patterson's "en masse" came to London, by 1881 most were living in the Silvertown area.
Henry died on the 12th January 1897 at 8, Stock Street, Plaistow, West Ham, and Elizabeth died the following year.
