Joseph Fairfax (d. 1728)
Notes for Joseph Fairfax:
William Fairfax of Lythe Yorkshire, son of Fairfax of Gilling, emigrated to France circa 1700 and was employed as a mercenary. His son Willam 1693 - 1738 married in France to Elizabeth Gerrad and had many children who all married and stayed in France.
William ( the mercenary) retuned to England and went back to Gilling and was appointed 8th Viscount of Emley. he could not speak any english and by 1730 was senile. He made an agreement with his son Charles Gregory in 1738 that if gave up his allowance he could stay at Gilling and be fed and clothed, if he wished to leave he would receive £50 per Annum.
Many of Williams relations came to join him at Gilling, including Joseph who married Ruth Green.
