Surname: Pruett, Saunders

I am pretty sure I have linked my line to Charles Pruett, father of Diana Pruett who married John Saunders in Caroline in 1825. Charles brought 133&1/3 acres in 1816 and lived there until his death in 1839. His estate paid taxes on it until 1850. The 130 acres was then sold to Mary and Mildred Vaughan in 1851. My greatgrandfather John N. and wife Mary Pruett bought the land back into the family from Mary's Vaughan' estate in 1872. This 130 acres was next to the 50 acres brought by William Pruett(John N's father) in 1854. Charles may have had only one son, William and apparently he liked living close to the 130 acres where he grew up. John N. apparently liked living in this area near Bagby, too(except for 4 yrs in the war) and brought his granfather's Charles's property. I hope I can find more on Charles.

To answer your question on Charles Pruett all we know now is that he was listed in the 1810,1820 and 1830 Caroline census. Charles had another daughter Martha who married John Bastin on Dec.19,1836. Charles,Edmund,Uriah,Elijah,Moses, and Thaddeus might be brothers or cousins because they got married at the same time(1795-1802). Edmund and Uriah are brothers because they were orphaned in 1787. Richard A. Prewitt listed a wealthly John Pruett for Caroline in the 1810 census in his book. I could find no John Pruett in the 1810 census today. I can't link my William to any of them. Should your Diana be spelled with one or two n's?

Hi Mike!
Here's what I have on John Gray/Susanna Pruett. Susanna
may be one of the four daughters/grandaughters of Charles
Pruett who is listed in the 1830 census for Caroline County.
Susanna also might be the daughter of Thaddeus Pruett of the
1830 census, we just are not sure. I did find a Mary Pruett
aged 60 living with a Gray family in the 1850 census. This
might be Susanna's mother. I need to look up the Gray family
in 1850 and see if there was a Susanna Gray listed. Do you
have any facts about Susanna that might help?
John

Quaker connection

Hi Bill!
I know this is a shot in the dark, but did you come across
any information on the Quaker community that existed near
Golansville in Caroline County between 1739 and 1853. I am
trying to link my Pruett relatives to the first Pruett in
Caroline:William Pruett(1651-1748). William Pruett was
married to Mary Stone and its possible they were Quakers.
William's father was Thomas Pruett of Charles River,VA who
was written up because he and his wife were not married in
established church. I was also wondering if the early Stone
family is generally connected to the Quaker religion?
John
