Justinian Holden came to this country with his older brother, Richard, on the "Francis" which sailed from Ipswich, Suffolk, England on 10 April 1634. They settled in Watertown, Ma.

Justinian (1) Holden -- Son of William, Jr., Son of William, Son of John, Son of Thomas, Son of John -- was Baptised 6 Oct 1611 at Lindsey, Suffolk, England,
son of William Jr. and Rose (LNU) Holden.
On 10 Apr 1634 two ships sailed from Ipswich, Suffolk, England bound for the Port of Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
One of the ships was the "Elizabeth," The other ship, the "Francis," carried Justinian (1) and his older brother, Richard to the New World.
"Richard came from England for the cause of religion. He was a dissenter to the established Church of England." The brothers settled originally at Watertown, Ma.
In 1673, at Middlesex, Ma, Justinian married Mary Rutter b. 1647, at Sudbury, England; dau of John and Elizabeth (LNU) Rutter. Justinian d. Aug 1691 at Cambridge, Ma.
(There is a note that Justinian also married Elizabeth Jennison-NFR);

Samuel Holden lived upon the 66-acre tract, part of the homestead bequeathed him by his father. He added 14 acres by purchase. His situation identified him more with Watertown than Cambridge people, and he attended the Watertown church, where his children were baptised.

William (3) Holden was practicing medicine in Newtown, Ma in 1734. He soon moved to Bridgewater, then to Dorchester, Ma, where in 1753 he purchased 41 acres from John Holbrook, paying 600 pounds. The Alarm List of the 1st Independent Company of Dorchester, commanded by Colonel Estes Hatch, dated 15 Mar 1758, contains the names of William Holden and William Holden, Jr., William's epitaph describes him as "an eminent physician, a friend to his country, and a useful man"

Samuel (4) Holden was a minute man at Dorchester Heights under Capt. Samuel Clapp, Colonel Gill's Regiment, March 1776. He turned out for the defense of Boston and commanded a company in Colonel Ebenezer Thayer's regiment of New Levies from Suffolk County.

Samuel (5) Holden, Jr. was a member of the company commanded by Captain or Lieutenant Williams, from Dorchester called out during Shay's rebellion from 8 Jan 1787 to 8 Feb 1787. He also served in company's commanded by Captains James Robinson and Elijah Reed. He moved his family to Preston, Ct. around 1790 and engaged in farming.
