Updated September 6, 2000

I am researching the SAYRE / SAYER lines of New York, descendants of Thomas SAYRE, of Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island. I have a reprint of Theodore M. Banta's (1901), "Sayre Family; Lineage of Thomas Sayre; A Founder of Southampton". It has over 12,000 SAYRE and related surnames from the early 1600's to about the 1890's.
Of special interest are the related lines of HOWELL, SEELEY / SEELY, STRONG, TUTHILL, BREWSTER, GOLDSMITH, DENTON, HALSEY, BUCKBEE, and WOODHULL. Most of these lines are of puritan English roots, and initially settled in Massachusetts, Long Island NY, and Connecticut, starting in about the early 1600's. Many of their early descendants were pioneer settlers in New Jersey, Orange County NY, Tioga/Chemung County NY, and Steuben County NY, just to name a few.

I am also researching my wife's line, ATLEE, descendants of William ATLEE of Fordhook House, England, who arrived in Philadelphia, PA. in 1734.
