| Jacob Seiler was born in Germany July 30, 1715. He arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on the ship Phoenix September 15, 1749. He settled first in Lebanon County PA but moved his family to Somerset County before 1772. He was the first Mennonite minister in Somerset Co., PA, and his will (d: April 15, 1793) is one of the first to be recorded there. He settled on a hill still known as "Saylor Hill" overlooking Meyersdale, PA. A small family cemetery remains on the hill containing his head stone and about twenty others. My information builds upon data colleced by Dr. E. C. Saylor, 1881-1954, and that of John H. Stangarone, 1915-1999. Using theses sources and others I have identified over 20,000 desendants of Jacob Seiler. With your help we can add more current information. This page last updated May 15, 2003. |
