THE 'SCANE' FAMILY
THE 'SCANE' FAMILYUpdated March 26, 2007 | colinscane [email protected] |
It is to the memory of Edward Herbert Stanley Scane (known as 'Tony'from when he was a child so that he was not confused with his father and as Dad to me) that the results of my family history research is dedicated. 'Where did my ancestors originate?' or 'What does my family name mean?' or other similar questions must surely be posed by most of us at one time or another during our lives. We may never decide to seek information to answer such questions, we may be satisfied with responses from discussions with family members or, as in the case here, we may undertake detailed genealogical research. It is difficult to see how the research will ever be completed.I am coming across additional information all the time but the law of diminishing returns is clearly evident whenever I now go to study either national or parish records. I recently joined the Guild of One-Name Studies to research the Scane family name worldwide and have already collected a significant database within Australia, Canada and the United States to add to my UK information which currently spans 321 years and 11 generations. I have set up this Home Page in the hope that it will generate new material both to fill gaps and to extend the Family Tree. |
