I am researching the Scarf families who emigrated to the Ottawa Valley, Canada from Ireland in the early 1800's. "BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE AND STAND UP FOR YOUR HERITAGE" My descendancy is: James Scharf b.1764 Co.Carlow, Ireland & Ann Bradley b.Ireland John Scharf b.1802 & Elizabeth Booth Jonathan Scharf b.1837 & Mary Anne Scharf(Daughter of Beauchamp Scharf) Zeeman Edmund Scharf b.1878 in Point McGaulet,Ontario & Edith Adelia Horan b.Shell Lake,Saskatchewan,Canada Morris Fairbanks Scarf b.1922 in Dundurn,SK & Joyce Doreen Hemmerling b.1927 in Spiritwood,Saskatchewan (Father:Ray Hemmerling b. Nebraska,USA,Mother:Adella Rodocker b.Nebraska,USA) My cousin Darryl Scarff from Sidney, Australia has completed a great deal of research on the Scharf families and has evidence of the Scharf families as far back as 1045 AD. in Thomond, Ireland The families lived in Castlecomer and on the Wandesforde Estate, amongst other areas of Ireland where many worked as miners or farmers prior to emigrating to Canada in 1820. Other Scharf family members chose to travel to Australia where many of the descendents stayed and raised their families. For some unknown reason many Scarf/Scharf familes changed the spelling of the surname. Some say it was so that they would not appear to be German. This is only speculation but there are many Scarf/Scharf families who descend from England,Wales, Germany,Austria, and other European countries. James and Ann Scharf who were from Co.Kilkenny,Ireland along with brother John and wife Jane James were the first of the Scharf families to emigrate to Canada, according to research conducted thus far.The Scharf Cemetary near Kanata,Ontario sits on what was James Scharf's original homestead on old Highway 7 to Glencairn,Ont.,and is currently maintained by the county of Kanata,Ontario,Canada Related names I am researching are: Sidoruk,Miles,Knight,Rodocker,Hemmerling,White,Reynolds,Marin, Aube,English,Horan,Erickson,Watson,Young,Daschuk,Ainsley,Primeau Fraser,McCooeye,Weatherall,Dycie,Scarfe,Scharf,Scarff,Scarf, Scariff and all other related and Variant spellings of the Scarf surname. Their are many Scharf lines descending from James and Ann Scharf and his brother John Scharf 1780 & Jane James. I was born, raised and educated in Prince Albert Saskatchewan,Canada and to this day there are many family members still living in Spiritwood,Choiceland,Carrot River,Whitefox, Nipawin and the surrounding areas. My immediate family includes my children, Tyler Jason Scarf(Fairbanks),Jamie Marie Scarf and Jesse Alan Scarf,my four sisters;Yvonne Primeau and husband Edward from Bonnyville,AB.,their children,Brian,Nicole,Wanda and Collette, Deborah Fairbanks(Calgary,Alberta),Della&Jim Fraser, daughter McKenzie Vance from (Yellowknife,NT) Chloe(Eileen)Scarf(Vancouver),and her children, Nathaniel and Jasmine Scarf, and my brother,Brett Scarf, wife Stacey and sons, Adam and Austin Scarf who live in Yellowknife,NT. I would be interested in hearing from all family members who are interested in research of the immediate and extended families.
