Her maiden name was Laura Sleeper. Her father was one of the early day sheriffs of Coose and her mother was a daughter of TJ Davis who opened the Caledonia coal mine on the Isthmus. She was nearing her 60th year."

"About Grandpa Cook: I remember him only a little since he, Grandma & Aunt Hazel died when I was 7 or 8, but he was an interesting man...what used to be called a neer do well. He was born in San Luis Obispo April 4, 1870. His father was a turkey farmer in LA until Newcastle wiped him out. There were lots of Cooks in the San Luis museum and they may be related. I was going to check it out but never got around to it. He was an artist... staff artist on one of the San Jose papers. ...Mother had one oil that I really liked , but the others she had were not all that good, so I think sketching was more his medium"
