Helen Oliver (daughter of William Oliver and Jane Hope) was born 06 July 1833 in Merrie Law, Roxburghshire, Scotland2123, and died 29 March 1908 in Middlebury, Elkhart Co, IN2124, 2125. She married Andrew W Myers on 17 April 1856 in Niles, St Joseph Co, IN2126, son of Jacob Myers and Lydia Utz.
Notes for Helen Oliver: Hellen (Oliver) Myers was born in Roxburghshire Scotland in 1833, daughter of William Oliver and Jane Hope. Her parents emigrated in 1836/1837, settling in Mishawaka, IN. She told her granddaughter Helen Mather that she dropped her doll into the Atlantic Ocean on the crossing. Her father died before 1850, when she was found living with her brothers and sister in the household of John and Jane Rodger at age 17. Her mother's obituary verifies she married John Rodgers and was the mother of Hellen. The Olivers were shepherds in Scotland, related to the Chilled Steel Plow inventor James Oliver of Mishawaka, IN. She married Andrew Myers when she was twenty-two, mothered three children, Will, Mary, and Ida. They moved from town to town, he was a miller. Her marriage ended in separation or divorce (no record found) as her husband alternately drank heavily and then was saved at church tent revival meetings. He was unfaithful. She lived with her son John, and then daughter Ida after her divorce, and died there at age seventy-four in 1907. She had cancer. She is buried in Middlebury, IN.
