Samuel Barber (son of Thomas Barber and Jane) was born 01 October 1648 in bp. Windsor, Hartford Co, CT253, and died 12 March 1708/09 in Windsor, Hartford Co, CT253, 254. He married Ruth Drake on 25 January 1676/77 in Windsor, Hartford, CT255, 256, 257, daughter of John Drake and Hannah Moore.
Notes for Samuel Barber: Samuel Barber, son of Thomas and Joan Barber, was born in Windsor, CT, baptized 1 October 1648. His parents died when he was 14 years of age. He married first December 1, 1670 at age 22, Mary Coggins, in Windsor. They had three children. She died 19 May 1676. Samuel then married, second, January 25, 1676/77, Ruth Drake, daughter of John Drake and Hannah Moore. They had eleven children.
Samuel Barber was placed with his brother Thomas to learn a trade after his parents death in 1662. When the inventory was taken 29 March 1709, after his death, by John Moore, Sen., Job Drake, Sen., and Thomas Marshall, the value of his estate was 598 pounds, 4s 10. His will was dated 21 Feb 1708-9: I, Samuel Barber, Sen., of Windsor doe make and ordain this my last will and testament. I give unto my wife Ruth 2 acres of meadowland in the Great Meadow, which I had with her, to be at her own dispose; also the use and improvement of my dwelling house and barn and outhouseing, with the lands adjoining thereunto, and with other lands adjoining which I bought of John Saxton, John Barber & Andrew Hilliyer, and 14 acres of Benj. Gardiner & John Gillett, until my son John come to the age of 21 years. Item. I give to my eldest son Samuel ...........(land). Item. I give to my grandson William Barber, son to my son William Barber, deceased.................(land with certain stipulations) some of which bounded north on land of my sonn Joseph. Item. I give to my sonn David..........(land). I give to my son Joseph, at Scotland, 20 rods in breadth lying on the north side of the land given to my son Samuel. (Here follows description of sundry other tracts of land bequeathed to son Joseph) "he to pay my wife 20s. yearly in current pay during her life." . Item. I give to my sonn Benjamin..............(land). I give to my sonn John, when he shall be 21 years of age, half my houseing and half the land given to my wife (excepting 2 1/2 acres of meadow), and the other half after my wive's decease; also I give to my sonn John, when he comes to be of age, about one acre of land which is called Fitch Waters bottom. Item. I declare it to be my will that my three daughters, Elizabeth, Mindwell, and Sarah, shall have 25 pounds apiece paid to each of them when they shall be 18 years of age, to make them equal with their two sisters that are married. And I give to my five daughters the remainder of my estate which is yet undisposed of, both personal and real, to be equally divided between my five daughters, Mary, Ruth, Elizabeth, Mindwell and Sarah, to them and their heirs forever. Samuel owned Half-Way Covenant in Windsor Church 12 Oct 1671 - resided at Windsor on the paternal homestead which he bought of his brother John in 1671. He removed to Simsbury, CT. Windsor records say Samuel Sen. died 12 March 1708 in Windsor.
