| We are researching our Kolberg/Colberg family from the village of Klein Tuchen, Butow, in the former German area of Pommern. Today that area is part of Poland and is known as Tuchomko (Klein Tuchen), county of Bytow (Butow). Our ancestors, Friedrich-Wilhelm Kolberg (Colberg) and wife, Henriette Amalie Kautz, were married in 1850 in Gross Tuchen, Butow, Pommern. They had 12 children with 5 dying in infancy. Seven sons survived to adulthood and were named Friedrich-Wilhelm, Jr., August, Heinrich, Johann, Otto, Paul and Ferdinand. Between 1880-1910, sons August, Heinrich, Otto, Paul and Ferdinand immigrated to Berrien County, Michigan, USA. Son Johann Colberg relocated to Berlin, Germany. Oldest son, Friedrich-Wilhelm, Jr. remained on the family farm in the village of Klein Tuchen. The name has been alternately spelled as Kolberg and Colberg on various records. We are unsure of the correct spelling and are researching both possibilities. Today, in the US, all descendants of August, Heinrich, Otto, Paul and Ferdinand Kolberg spell their name with the "K" - Kolberg. The majority of the descendants of their brother, Johann Colberg, who mainly are still living in Germany, spell their name with the "C" - Colberg. We are very interested in locating any descendants of oldest son, Friedrich-Wilhelm Kolberg (Colberg), Jr. who was born September 28, 1852 in Klein Tuchen, Butow, Pommern and died in 1918 in Klein Tuchen. He married Hermine Melchert and had two known children (though they are to have had at least six children). The two children that are known are Martha Marie Franziska Colberg born May 28, 1882 in Klein Tuchen and Paul Willy Colberg born December 25, 1883 in Klein Tuchen. Please contact us if you have any knowledge of connections! |
