The following information was provided by Dona (McReynolds) Eason:
Jeanette Frances Hightower was born 6 Oct 1911 in Joplin, Mo. At age 17, she moved with her parents to Chillicothe, Mo. where this put her across the street from her future husband, Labern McReynolds, whom she married 2 years later. When Labe first saw her, she was in her front yard, dressed in a flowered voile dress and a wide brimmed hat. She had black curly hair that hung down her back, blue eyes and a very white skin. He thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He sent his sister over to meet her and invite her to go for a ride in his father's 1928 Essex. She went and this started them dating.
One date, on a cold winters night, Labe walked 2 miles on ice and snow and 28 degree below zero weather, to sit and talk to her in her parent's parlor (they had moved across town by then). On his way home he saw the town's ice cream parlor, 'The Candy Kitchen' burn to the ground as firemen fought a losing battle as the water froze in the hoses and hydrant.
Labe died 17 May 1973 in San Bernardino, CA of cancer.
