Angelo was likely the first member of the Schiavon family to be born in Trieste. The family originally came from the Italian Venetian region of Chioggia, where the family practiced pharmacy. By the end of the 18th century they immigrated to the Trieste region then part of the Hapsburg Austrian Empire.

He was said to have married a noblewoman from Venice. This statement was told to Eddy Schiavon, Jr. by his Great Aunt Linda Schiavon Tonin.
