Villeneuve/Vinlove Families

Generation No. 1

1. GONZAGUE"CORALL"1 VILLENEUVE was born Abt. 1804 in Canada, and died Bef. 1860 in IL. He married MARIE ST. ONGE. She was born November 08, 1808 in Riviere Du Loup, PQ, Canada, and died February 05, 1897 in Aurora, Kane CO, IL.

Notes for G
ONZAGUE"CORALL" VILLENEUVE:
Olivier Villeneuve listed the personal name "Gonzago" as the name of his father and ? Lesperance as his mother on the occasion of his second marriage to Selina Burk. Gonzago is thought to be a brother of Cardinal Jean-Marie Rodrigue Villeneuve's father, according to family oral tradition, but this is not documented at this time. My note: I believe his name was actually Louis de Gonzague, called Gonzague. St. Louis Gonzague was an Italian Jesuit and there are a number of scholastic institutions named for him in Canada and France.

My note: Death records of the Church of the Maternity of the BVM, 1847-1985, Page 1:
Villeneuve, Philomine 18 yrs 1870 Jan 08 MBVM PA (Parents) Consaque? Villeneuve & Marie St. Onge.
In the privately printed "Genealogy of the Oliver Villeneuve Familly," compiled by Alexine Odette, the parents of Julie St. Pierre Villeneuve were thought to be David St. Pierre (correct) and Amelie St. Onge. (incorrect. She was Euralie Marcotte, widow of Pierre Lamy) Another discrepency is the surname Lesperance which son Oliver gave as his mother's surname. Perhaps Lesperance was a dit name?
Since the French language was spoken in 1870 in Bourbonnais, it seems more likely that the accurate surname is St. Onge.

Also in these Death records:
Villeneuve, Louis C. 40 yrs 1852 Aug 20 MBVM SP (Spouse) Marie Anne Martineau
Perhaps a relative of Gonzague?

In the History of Kane Co., Vol 2, 1908, there is an entry for an Edward J. Raymond, pg 63 - here is a synopsis - Edward J. Raymond, now filling the office of City Clerk. Born in aurora 1 Sept 1873, his parents being Charles and Julia Villeneuve Raymond. The mother was native of Canada, came to Aurora with parents in 1847; the father also native of Canada and arrived in Aurora 1858. Employee of Chicago, Burlington and Quincy RR, 40 yrs. Attended Sacred Heart school. Employed at age 14 at the Beacon, learning printers trade, connected with them 10 years. Later worked for Wormwood and Berry Printing co. 1903 elected city clerk, now serving 3rd term. In Oct 1899 Edward Raymond married Julia Holslag, native of Buffalo NY, they have one son Charles Edward born 6 Sept.1904. Member Order of Elks, Knights of Columbus and Eagles.

It is probable this is the family of Olivier and Julia in the two Census reports below. Birth dates are known for Marie: 1809, Julia: Feb 1840, and Oliver: Dec 1842.
Kendall County was named for Amos Kendall, Postmaster General in Andrew Jackson's administration. The county was organized February 19, 1841, and contains nine townships. The three northern townships, Oswego, Bristol and Little Rock were originally part of Kane County. The six southern townships, NaAuSay, Kendall, Fox, Big Grove, Lisbon and Seward were part of LaSalle County. The county seat is Yorkville. Mapquest shows the distance from Oswego to Aurora is not quite seven miles.

Two Census look-up requests:

1860 Census

These are the only "Villeneuve" that show up in the 1860 Census in the U.S.:

C Villeneuve Indianola, Calhoun, TX 48 1811 France Male

Matilda Villeneuve Indianola, Calhoun, TX 27 1832 Maryland Female

Celestin Villeneuve Indianola, Calhoun, TX 3 1856 Texas Male

I checked other spellings for the 1860 census but came up with nothing.
