Hello Ken
I don't have very much info on Torbay Browns. I do have one document dated Sept 9 1778. A Doctor John Brown was ordered by the Govenor to return a fishing room to a widow Martin, this fishing room was located in Torbay.
All the best
Keith Brown

Hi MARK:
There was also a loss of records for 1850 to 1872 at Holy Trinity Parish (RC), TORBAY that served a broad area west of St.John's including Pouch Cove, home of my ancestors.Per the Parish Secretary: "There are baptismal records for 1862,1867,1868,1869 and 1870 but so few they appear incomplete. There are no baptismal records for 1863,1864,1865 and 1866."

Newfoundland Wills "B"
1830 - 1962
The information on these pages came from the "Newfoundland Wills Index" microfilm. Each entry was hand written. I had particular troublereading middle initials, for example the difference between F and T. An asterisk indicates an entry that was difficult to read and therefore the accuracy is suspect.

Letter dated June 13, 1995 from Elaine King, to Thomas R. Cole:
Dear Mr. Cole,
Thank you for your response to my letter. The only other information I have concerning Elizabeth Brown was that she was married 14 Dec 1819 in Torbay, Nfld and died in Torbay on 7 Mar 1851 at the age of 61. The Torbay Historical Society, C/O Town Hall, Torbay, NF A0A 3Z0.
A Mrs. Ruth Cole compiled a book about the Coles and my information comes from research she did using the church, archives, and cemetery records. She mentioned there was a John Cole of Carbonear married to a Mary whose children, Nathaniel, Susannah, and William Henry Cole were all born between 1824-27. (vol. 48 of the Methodist Records of Carbonear). There was a Richard Cole who married a Martha and their son Elias Cole who was born 27 May 1837 is found in the same volume as stated above.

(f) Bristowe (of Poole), who does business with the planters in Newfoundland, refers to John Bristowe and Company, shipowners and merchants at Poole, agents there inter alia for Joseph Brown of Bonavista, whose descendant, Dr. H. M. Brown, has a circular from them dated about 1818. Elizabeth Bristowe, daughter of Susannah Ayers, of Bonavista, was married there to Joseph Tilly in 1811, this couple were the parents of Robert Tilly, merchant at Elliston, and great grandparents of the late Ernest Tilly, author of two series of articles, biographical and fictional; respectively, in recent years in the "Newfoundland Quarterly". The Bristowe firm was still operating in Poole in 1938. [TC NOTE; Joseph Brown above is Robert Brown?].
