Notes for Walter Gurdon Bunnell, Sr.: Died at 86 years old was a pioneering engineer with the Lake Torpedo Boat Company. Died in his residence at Palatka, Florida. Buried in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Former residenct of Nichols, CT. Made his home in Florida since 1953. Born in Branford, son of Charles E. and Eliza Bradley Bunnell, he came to Bridgeport with his parents as a child. Long active here and abroad in association with Simon Lake inventor of the even keel submarine. As electrical engineer with Lake Torpedo Boat Co. he designed and installed the electrical power and control sustems used in the underwater craft. During WW1 Mr. Bunnell served as secretary of the California Shipbuilding Co. He retired in 1921, returning that year to Fairfield County, where he made his mone on Woodcrest Ave. in Nichols. Surviving are his wife, Florence Demarest Bunnell, four sons, Walter G., Jr. of Riviera Beach, FL, C. Milton, B. Bradley and Douglas C. Bunnell all of Palatka, FL. A sister Mrs. R.C. Wakeman and a nephew Walter G. Wakeman both of Bridgeport. Services conducted Aug 24, 1959. Obit dated Sept. 3, 1959.
