Notes for John Banister: Burgess, Dinwiddie County, 1766-1775; Member of Conventions, 1774, 1775, 1776. The Colonel had THREE wives though many early histories choose to ignore the one to Munford ....though I don't know why other than the fact that it appears there were no children of this marriage. Col. Banister b.Dec 26, 1734 married after his return from England in 1755 (at abt. age 21 to Elizabeth Mun(m)ford. This marriage has been questioned but she undoubtedly was his wife as her death notice lists her as his relict. When she died in 1770 she would have been 36 years old. No children found at this time for this marriage. Elizabeth Munford married Col John Banister in 1755 (marriage bond, Ibid, XIX 274-276) She appears to have been his first wife, and is not noticed in the Banister pedigrees.
Amelia County Marriage Bonds--John B. and Elizabeth Munford 2/4/1755 Va. Gazette 1777--died Elizabeth Bannister spouse of Col. John Bannister of Dinwiddie Co. VA. Vital Records--
Since Elizabeth Munford BANISTER who married the Colonel in 1755, died in 1770 and the Colonel married as his third wife, Nancy BLAIR on Feb. 26,1779, it can be concluded that he married Elizabeth "Patsy" Bland after the death of his first wife in 1770 and before the marriage of Nancy Blair in 1779. Elizabeth Bland died Jun 27, 1777 in Dinwiddie VA. so their marriage was probably aft 1770 (death of Col's first wife) and before her/Elizabeth's death in 1777 It is believed that Elizabeth Bland Banister and Elizabeth Munford Banister were first cousins. Elizabeth Munford was the dau. of Capt. Robert Munford and Ann BLAND Elizabeth BLAND was the dau. of Col. Theodorick BLAND and Frances Elizabeth Bolling.

John Banister, Esq. of Dinwiddie died (VGPu and VG11-Jul 77) (Since Munford died in 1770... this Elizabeth cannot be the same as she; so it is clear that this Elizabeth is Mary Elizabeth "Patsy" BLAND Banister)
