Notes for Matthew Schleich: Obit May 27,1937 MATHIAS SCHLEICH CALLED BY DEATH. Mathias Schleich, highly respected citizen of Caledonia, passed away at his home on Monday afternoon, May 24th, at 1:45 P.M., after a three weeks' illness following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Schleich was born in Condon, (Consdorf) Luxembourg, Germany, on August 5th, 1859, the son of the late Martin and Margaret ( Spellman ) Schleich. He came to America when a child and settled here. His marriage to Miss Mary Gehrig, of Freeburg, took place on May 20th, fifty-three years ago. After his marriage he and Mrs. Schleich lived on their farm, 1 1/2 miles East of Caledonia, in Mayville Township, until 21 years ago when he retired and moved into the village. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and the following children: Mrs. Charles Thimmesch, at La Crosse, Wisconsin............, Mrs. Leonard Klug and Mrs. Henry Weimerslage and two sons, Andrew V. Schleich and Nicholas Schleich of Caledonia. He also leaves 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. David Schleich, of Caledonia. Two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death several years ago. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church Thursday morning, May 27th, at 9 o'clock. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Father Mathias Jostock, will read the requiem mass and also officiate at the services at the cemetery.
