He married (1) Lizzie Mc Cready, daughter of Thomas Mc Cready and Louisa A. Raymond. He married (2) Nellie Doney on May 24, 1885 in Oriska ND.

Oliver Lindsay Mackey a well known pioneer of this city passed to the great beyond at 4 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 1933. For several months he had suffered patiently knowing the end was not far away, cancer being the cause of death.
Son of James Mackey and Flora Eglinton native of Ireland. Oliver was born October 1, 1861 at Mound Prairie, Minnesota.
In 1882 he came to Valley City and followed the trade of boiler maker and plumber. In the days of steam threshing rigs, during the threshing season he worked day and night, keeping threshing outfits going. Upon many occasions he worked all night re-flueing boilers that might be in operation the next day. none could re-flue a boiler in less time then he. He was possessed of a ready wit and a keen sense of humor. In 1907 he was elected as alderman of the first ward to fill an un-expired term, and continued in that office until 1914.
His name appears with that of other City Council members of 1910 on the bronze plague of former Mayor L.S. Platou commemorating the change from river water to p[Ure well water, which hangs in the council room, in the city hall.
When the Valley City Fire Department was organized on May 6, 1895, the name Oliver Mackey appeared as a charter member, he was a member of the old Hook and Ladder company, and served as captain of that company. He also served as assistant chief of that department in 1931 after a service of 36 years.
His mechanical skill was shown in keeping the little Maxwell run-about in operation after it had passed the age of 25 years, it continued to operate and attract attention as it passed along our streets.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the Somdahl Chapel, which was taxed to it's capacity to accommodate those that gathered to pay their last tribute to this pioneer.
Rev. A.F. Fieldus officiated and interment was made in Hillside Cemetery. He leaves to mourn, his widow and son Arthur of this city, and three brothers and two sisters. they are Alex, Sarah and Flora of Pipestone, Minn. James of Mound Prairie, and Sam of Hokah Minn.
W.T. Craswell, E.H. Swanson, N.J. Hesch, A.P. Hagenston, W.F. du Vail and Fred king with whom he had long been associated Wirth in the Valley City Fire Department, were honorary pallbearers.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased : Donald Lloyd, Glenn Gordon and John Tooley, Gordon Myer and Thomas McCready- Con.
