Margaret QUAYLE at the Tynwald Celebration, 1896

Margaret QUAYLE at the Tynwald Celebration, 1896
This photo is of Margaret QUAYLE (previously QUIGGIN nee CAIN), who, as a young housekeeper aged only 23 years, married Robert QUIGGIN in his mid fifties in 1852. She was born in 1829 and died in 1904. She was the mother of Thomas Edmund QUIGGIN, my great-grandfather. This photo has been enlarged from a cropped part of a photocopy of a photo taken against the background of the crowd at the Tynwald Celebration in 1896 (see photo #31 below). It is the only known photograph of my "QUIGGIN-CAIN" great-great-grandmother, apart from what is probably a studio photograph taken in about the 1860's. The original of this Tynwald photo was presumably taken by Thomas QUIGGIN or his wife or their daughter during their trip to the IOM in 1896; it was found in the family photo album of my grandmother, Lilly Pearl SCHUBERT nee QUIGGIN, with a caption by her stating "Grandma Quayle".
