George had to leave Thomasville Ga in the mid 1840's when he killed a man in a fight at a country fair. It was a fair fight but the sheriff and the fair peo0le were upset. george moved to Mobile then to Washington County. In the 1860 census he listed himself as Derris but in the 1870 he was back to G. W. Knapp.

Family stories say that Caroline had slaves and did not want to free them so she went to New Orleans, bought a boat, loaded the slaves up and started out to South America. She died soon after and was buried in Mexico.

During the war of 1812, Drury Adkins organized a company of Dickson County men to fight in that campaign. He attained the rank of Captain and commanded his troops.
