2. OBEDIAH JACKSON3 ALDERMAN (ELISHA2, ?1) was born May 05, 1828 in Conneaut Township, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, and died November 03, 1909 in Galva, Illinois. He married (1) MARY ANN HAYWOOD March 12, 1851 in Elk Creek, Pennsylvania. She was born 1831 in New York, and died Bef. February 1868 in Albion, Erie Co., Pennsylvania. He married (2) A.A. SPRAGUE February 28, 1868 in Albion, Erie Co., Pennsylvania. She died Unknown. He married (3) MARY ANN CAMPBELL September 28, 1869. She was born Abt. 1855, and died November 1938.

Notes for OBEDIAH JACKSON ALDERMAN:
According to notes from Kendrah Justesen, Wanda Riggen, and Kendrah's grandmother, Violet Binge Alderman; Obediah moved his family to Pennsylvania shortly after his son, Manley, was born in 1851. After his first wife, Mary Ann Hayword, died in Pennsylvania in 1868, he moved the family back to Illinois while Manley was still a young boy. Obediah was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge but never affiliated with the local lodge. At the time of Obediah's death, a son, William, is said to have lived in Hudson, Kansas. Daughters Rozella Wade and Pearl Wilkinson lived in Galesburg and Cambridge, Illinois.

Obediah's family had a long history of military service. His grandfather, Lyman Jackson, and 7 of Lyman's brothers fought in the War of 1812. Obediah, along with 3 of his brothers, fought in the Civil War. One brother was killed at the Battle of Bull Run. Two nephews and 2 cousins fought in the Spanish War.

Obediah was drafted into Company H, 98th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. He was 36 years old at the time. According to papers from the War Department Adjutant General's office, dated April 22, 1865, his eyes were gray, hair brown, complexion fair and height 5'10". His occupation was listed as laborer. He was enlisted at Ridgeway, Pennsylvania on March 6, 1865. He was discharged on November 17, 1866.

After his discharge at Albion, Pennsylvania, Obediah resided there until 1869 when he moved to Middlesex, Pennsylvania. He lived there until Oct. 19, 1873 when he moved to Princeville, Illinois in Peroria county. In 1876 he moved to Galva, residing there until his death. His home was in the northwest part of the city. He died on a Wednesday morning after a short illness. His death was due in part to complications involving Bright's disease.

Obediah was active in the G.A.R. He was employed by the Galva News for 10 years as assistant press foreman. When issue #1 of the Galva News was published on October 18, 1879, Obediah operated the press. It was "a slow, laborous job. "

Notes for MARY ANN CAMPBELL:
Mary Ann was a member of M.E. Church in Galva. At the time of Mary Ann Campbell's death, she was living in Aurora, Illinois. She had made her home initially with one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Wade, in Kewanee, Illinois but then moved to Aurora to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Frank Kehl. At the time of Mary Ann's death, her daughters Ida, Rozella Wade, and Gertrude Pailette were living in Norfolk, Nebraska; Kewanee and Chicago, Illinois. Her son, Harry, resided in Oswego, Illinois.

Isaac was said to have been well known in Galva, Illinois. He was brakeman for the B & O Railroad in Newark, New Jersey until 1874 when he came to Galva and was employed for nearly a year on the school building then in the process of erection. He then returned to Newark as a brakeman. He died leaving behind his wife and 5 children.

3. JOHN LUTHER3 ALDERMAN (ELISHA2, ?1) was born February 28, 1831 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and died November 06, 1898 in Galva, Knox Co., Ilinois. He married (1) CATHERINE SCHAFFER. She was born Abt. 1830 in Germany, and died February 16, 1869 in Illinois. He married (2) MARY MILLEN Aft. 1869. She died Unknown. He married (3) MATILDA JANE SEYBERT November 12, 1871 in Henry Co., Illinois. She was born August 12, 1848 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died December 14, 1910 in Galva, Illinois.

Notes for JOHN LUTHER ALDERMAN:
The 1860 Federal census listed a "Mary Millen, 57, F" of New York residing with the John Alderman family as well as a "Jas Alderman, 47, M" of New York. The connection between this Mary Millen and John's second wife, also Mary Millen, is unknown. The connection between Jas Alderman and John is unknown. However, another family researcher references the 1870 Stark County, Illinois census listing James Alderman, born about 1812 in Vermont as a possible sibling of Elisha Alderman. Therefore, Jas would be John's uncle.

John Alderman was found on the personal property tax lists for both 1865 and 1875 in the town of Victoria, Knox County, Illinois. His personal property valuation increased from $72 in 1865 to $226 in 1875.

An on-line search of Illinois Civil War veterans listed a John L. Alderman who served in Company E of the 95th Infantry. He resided in Leroy, Illinois.
