Notes for Donald Murl Scott:
All of his life Don has had a love for the outdoors. He can usually be found either fishing or hunting. His hobbies include collecting antique fishing lures, carving fishing lures, and having an apiary (beekeeping). He worked for over 30 years in various grocery stores in and around the Joplin, Missouri area as a retail butcher before retiring. He has a excellent work record and reputation.

Don started doing taxidermy shortly after he married, initially for his own enjoyment. After a short time, he started doing taxidermy work for numerous friends. His hobby eventually grew into a family business based out of his home. Don joined the National Taxidermy Association in its second year of existence. He and his wife, Lois, have attended numerous state, national, and world conventions and competitions across the country through the years. Even though the NTA is not aware of it, Don was one of the first taxidermists in the country to carve his own styrofoam mannequins. In the 1970's, he went to a NTA convention in Denver, Colorado. While attending a seminar there, he observed a new technique being introduced, that of hand carving fish mannequins. The instructor said he had just started carving mannequins and was the only taxidermist in the country utilizing this technique. Don had been carving them for 2 years prior to the convention.
