2. CHRISTOPHER AMOS² FLINT (JOHN¹) was born 1785 in Rockbridge Co VA ³, and died Bef. 1880 in Monroe county, WV. He married MARY J. DEAN April 06, 1815 in Rockbridge Co., VA ⁴, daughter of SAMUEL DEAN and SARAH RUSSELL. She was born Abt. 1790, and died 1836 in South Greenbrier County (now Monroe Co) VA ^5,⁶.

Notes for CHRISTOPHER AMOS FLINT:
Christopher moved to what is now Monroe Co WV in the early 1800's probably shortly after he and Polly married. There they had a full and successful life and raised many children. Most of their children stayed in the area of Monroe Co and that part of Monroe which became part of Summers Co in 1870. All records of Christophers children came from Probate Records in Monroe and Summers Co except the death of his son Ezekiel which is verified by records of The United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The earliest mention of the Flints in Virginia that I have found are as follows:
In a List of the names of the living in Virginia and of those who have died since April 1623. Dated February 16, 1624: "At Buck Row, Living: Thomas Flint.

January 20 - February 7, 1625. Muster of the inhabitants of Virginia. (The name of the ship and the date they arrived in is also given): "Elizabeth City beyond Hampton River: Thomas Flynt by Diana, 1618.

An article appeared in the "Critic", Richmond, Virginia, issue of June 16, 1889. A single isolated paragraph which reads as follows:

(a) Thomas Flint came to Virginia in 1618, burgess for Warwick River, 1629, 1629-30; for Keith's Creek 1631; for Stanley Hundred 1632; for Denbigh 1632-3; for Warwick River 1642-3 and for Warwick 1647; commissioner for Warwick River 1631; He married Mary ________.

All of these references are probably the same person.

From "History of Monroe County", by Morton, 1917:
"Of three brothers, James, Nathaniel and Christopher (Mary Jane Dean) the two former went to Ohio about 1817. Children of Christopher: Samuel, John (d 1898) (Polly Hedrick), Benjamin (Polly Armstron), Jeremiah (Mrs. Lucinda Altair), Christopher, (Elizabeth Ellis of Enos), Thomas, Nathaniel, Stephen, Ezekiel, Joseph, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ruth. Jeremiah was a most industrious man. He would work all day on his land and work his sawmill at night with the help of a pine torch. He lived on Wolf and Griffith."

The 1820 census list Christopher and Nathaniel in Rockbridge county, VA. In 1930, Christopher is listed in Greenbrier county and Nathaniel is still listed in Rockbridge county. Note that Wolf creek empties into the Greenbrier river from the Monroe County side and Griffith Creek from the Summers county side.

3. JOHN² FLINT, JR. (JOHN¹) was born 1788 in VA. He married ELLENDER DEAN June 08, 1815 in Rockbridge Co VA, daughter of SAMUEL DEAN and SARAH RUSSELL. She was born 1786 in VA, and died Aft. 1850.

Marriage bond dated August 4, 1809. James was in the Flying Camp (McDowell's) Virginia Militia in a company of riflemen commanded by Capt. James Castmill, from the 48th regt. in the county of Botetourt from July 13, 1813 until he died in action on September 2, 1813. (National Archives records)

5. NATHANIEL² FLINT (JOHN¹) was born 1793 in Rockbridge Co., Va.⁷, and died January 16, 1878 in Monroe Co., West Va.⁸. He married ELIZABETH MCKENZIE January 25, 1813 in Rockbridge Co., Va., daughter of DANIEL MCKENZIE. She was born Abt. 1793 in Rockbridge Co., Va.?.

Notes for NATHANIEL FLINT:
John bought land in Rockbridge Co. VA in 1792. Sometime between 1792 and 1796 he and Elizabeth moved to Amherst County, or maybe they already lived there. Later in 1824, Elizabeth (Christopher, Nathaniel, John, Thomas and Hanna her children and Heirs of John (Jonathan) Flint sold the land in Amherst Co. See Deed Book L Amherst Co. Records.

Nathaniel was born in Rockbridge Co. VA ca. 1793 He married Betsy McKenzie one of 2 daughters of Daniel McKenzie. He moved his family to South Greenbrier Co VA sometime bet 1825 and 1830 . He was a Cooper by trade, but in 1824, in Rockbridge Co. VA he had to mortgage all his tools. Personal property owner of record in Rockbridge Co. and Greenbrier Co. In 1850 South Greenbrier co was made part of Monroe Co. WVA and Nathaniel remained where he was which then was in Monroe Co. WV . Nathaniel died of Old Age. Information on death report was given by John Murdock, (Son-in-law?) His residence at death was listed as Kelly Creek . This follows route 7 in western Monroe County about 7 or 8 miles south of Alderson. The family were members of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson where Daniel, John, Sally were Baptized and Married.

Christopher and Nathaniel are listed in the 1820 Census of Rockbridge county, Virginia. In 1830 Christopher is listed in Greenbrier county and Nathaniel is still listed in Rockbridge.

HAMILTON Abt. 1840 in Lexington Va., daughter of SAMUEL HAMILTON and ELIZABETH UNKNOWN. She was born August 08, 1823 in Lexington, Rockbridge Co VA ¹¹, and died February 14, 1905 in Polk Co., MO.

In the 1860 Census Ezekiel had $8000 in real estate and $3000 in personal property. He was a very prosperous man in Polk Co. Mo. in 1860.
He is listed in the 1830 Rockbridge County, VA census and the 1850 Polk County, MO census. Also listed in 1850, Polk County, MO is Julia A. Flint.
