      4. Chief Opecancanough2 Powhatan (Algonkian Chief1) was born 1554 in Virginia, and died 1644 in Jamestown, James City Co., Virginia. He married Princess Cleopatra, daughter of Wahunsonacock Powhatan and Winanuske Matatiske. She was born 1592 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1641 in Virginia.

Notes for Chief Opecancanough Powhatan:
Brother of Chief Powhatan, father of Pocahontas. It was he who, as successor to Powhatan, lead the great Indian massacre on Friday, March 22, 1622 (Good Friday) A quarter of all the English population was killed. However, disaster then struck the natives, for the English established policies that eventually led to the near-total extermination of the Indian people and forceful removal of the survivors to reservations.

  Notes for Weroance Nectowance Powhatan:
He signed a Treaty with the Colony of Virginia in 1645, at which time he was called by the English "King of the Indians."
