Notes for Samuel Burks, Sr.: Came from England about the last of the seventeenth century. Settled in New Kent county, VA, later known as Hanover county. His will was drawn up in St. Ann's Parish, Albemarle county, VA, in 1755, probated in 1756 (Will Book, p. 23-24) It mentions his wife Mary, his sons Samuel, Jr., Richard, John Peartree, Charles and daughters Elizabeth Cabell, Mary Smith, and a grandson Samuel Burks, son of Samuel Jr.
