1. NORMAN1 MCLEOD was born Abt. 1760 in Scotland, and died Bef. Feb 07, 1853 in Thomas Co, GA. He married CATHERINE MCMILLAN Abt. 1788 in North Carolina, daughter of ARCHIBALD MCMILLAN and MARGARET MURPHY. She was born Abt. 1770 in Edinburg, Scotland, and died Aft. 1850 in Thomas Co, GA.

ORMAN MCLEOD:
A notice in Thomas Co, Georgia newspaper clippings, Volume I, 1857-1875 dated Wednesday, October 20, 1858 states:
      Georgia, Thomas County: Will be sold before the Court House door in said county on the first Tuesday in January, next, between the legal hours of sale, all the property belonging to the estate of NORMAN McLEOD, late of said county, deceased. Sold for the benefit of the heirs and creditors of said estate. (Signed)       MURDOCK McLEOD, Adm.

The North Carolina State Census of Richmond County, NC dated 1784-1787 records NORMAN McLEOD, ALEXANDER McLEOD, and CATHARINE McLEOD living near each other in the county.

Norman McLeod was born in Scotland before 1760, and immigrated to America about 1782. He settled in Richmond Co, NC (Source: General Assembly Sessions Records, Nov. Dec 1799, in Box 3: Folder entitled PETITIONS-MISCELLANEOUS, NC State Archives, Raleigh, NC, and the 1790 Fed. Census of Fayette District, Richmond County, NC)

      ENTRY #122-Chas. Medlock enters 300 ac in Richmond, Co, SW corner of Moses Hodges survey in Bladen Co., the old improvement by NORMAN McLEOD and between Cypress Pond and Shew Heel Creek. (no date)
      ENTRY #227A-(2nd 76) Oct 1, 1784 John Ray enters 250 ac in Richmond Co., Border includes NORMAN McLEOD improvement.

There are other land entries made by NORMAN McLEOD in later years in same county; also some entries for the name in Roberson Co, NC in 1791-1794 that could pertain to this family (not verified) There was 3 Norman McLeod's living in that NC area in those years.

2 land lots were granted to a Norman McLeod in Montgomery Co, GA in the area that is now Vidalia, GA. They contained 300 & 190 acres, respectively. (This info submitted to Nell Fronabarger by Rudy Dennis of WR, GA. He is a descendant of Montgomery Co, GA McLeod's.)

1805: Norman McLeod registered for two draws in the 1805 Land Lottery, and drew blanks. He was also paying taxes in Dist 54. Montgomery Co. Source: (see above entry)

1807: Norman McLeod was recorded as serving in the Superior Court in Montgomery Co. Source: LDS film # 159029, Supplement to Early Settlers & Pioneers 1794-1816

1808: Norman McLeod moved his family to the area of Telfair County, GA known as China Hill and settled there.

1810: Following is records found in the Office of County Clerk in Telfair Co., GA
      "Pursuant to an act of General Assembly of the State of Georgia passed at Milledgeville on the fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and nine an act to alter the time of holding the Superior Courts in three circuits of the State, the Court met this 16th day of April 1810 at the house of John Peterson.
                                          Presiding, The Hon. Thos. P. Carnes, Judge
The Grand and Petit Jurors having been drawn to serve at this term..........NORMAN McLEOD, No. 11 to serve on the Grand Jury in 1810."

      1810: Deed dated 2 Oct 1810 records Norman McLeod purchasing Lot 325, 9th dist. containing 202 1/2 acres, Telfair Co, GA from ASA PRIOR. Witnesses were Daniel McDonald, John McLeod, Ziba Fletcher. Recorded 6 Jan 1812. (This is 1st deed found in Telfair Co showing Norman buying land and John, his son, living there)
      1816: Deed dated 23 May 1816 records Norman McLeod purchasing 200 acres, more or less, from MICAJAH VASSEN, Lot 306, Dist 9, Telfair Co, GA. Test: John McLeod, William McLeod, & Alexander McLeod (these are 3 sons of Norman)
      1817: Deed dated 27 May 1817 records Norman McLeod purchasing 202 1/2 acres form JOHN HALL, Lot 335, Dist 9, Telfair Co, GA. Test: John McLeod, Murdoch McRae, John Murphy, & Alexander McLeod, JP recorded 13 Aug 1818
      1819: Deed dated 20 March 1819 records Norman McLeod purchasing 202 1/2 acres form JOHN KITTLES, Lot 385, Dist 9, Telfair Co, GA Test: G B Gardner, Allen Tookes, JJC deed proved 8 March 1820
      1832: Deed dated 3 Feb 1832 shows Norman McLeod, Sr. having sold 2 lots of land to son, William McLeod, being Lot 306 and Lot 325, both being 202 1/2 acres being Dist 9, Telfair Co, GA Test: Alexander and Norman McLeod, Jr. Deed recorded 9 Jan 1836
      1835: On the 31 Dec 1835, Norman McLeod, Sr., appointed Norman McLeod, Jr. "my lawful attorney" to sell Lots 335 & 385, Dist 9. Telfair Co, GA.......as we are hereunto moving. These lots were sold to DANIEL McKINNON of Telfair County on 31 Dec 1835 and recorded 24 Dec 1836.

      1821: Norman McLeod served on the Grand Jury in Telfair County on 26 March 1821.
      1824 & 1825: Norman McLeod acted as Constable of the County of Telfair.
