John L. McLeod

      Funeral services for John L. McLeod, 82, of Eastman, who died in a Milledgeville hospital Thursday, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Horne Funeral home.
      The Rev. Joe Conley officiated, with burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Milan.
      Sacred selections were rendered by the Logan Trio.
      Pallbearers were Euston Cravey, Otis Cravey, Clinton Cravey, Lester McLeod, Grady Vaughn and Fred Vaughn.
      Mr. McLeod was a native of Telfair County and a retired farmer.
      Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. J B Jones of Eastman; a son, John E. McLeod, Eastman; a sister, Mrs. Jane Cravey, of Helena; and two brothers, Marvin and Dave McLeod, both of McRae.
      Horne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Notes for DAVE MCLEOD:
Author thinks Dave's whole complete name is David Hance McLeod. In some of census records it has David with about correct age for him.

When Dave moved to Thomaston in the '40's the blacks were celebrating May 29th as Amancipation Proclamation Day. He wasn't about to have his birthday on that day so he started celebrating on May 16 with his son Biven.

Mrs. Dave McLeod Dies Unexpectedly While Fishing
      Mrs. Dave McLeod, 57, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Thursday morning while fishing on Gum Swamp near her home, the old Harp Heath place, between McRae and Scotland.
      Mrs. McLeod was born in Telfair County on January 8, 1903, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. William Henry Strom. She was married on November 15, 1922 and was a member of Rebecca Baptist Church.
      Funeral services were held in Mt. Zion Methodist Church near Milan Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev E. C. McDaniel, pastor of the East Thomaston Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Harris & Smith Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
      Pallbearers were her nephews
      Survivors include her husband; one son, Vivian (Biven is correct spelling) McLeod, of Thomaston; three daughters, Mrs. Darlene (Doline is correct spelling) Sears of Macon (I think Thomaston instead of Macon); Mrs. Marjorie Smith and Mrs. Montine Spoon, of McRae; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Beckie Saturday, of Savannah, and Mrs. Hessie (Hassie is correct spelling) Turner of Macon, and five brothers, Robert Strom of Macon; Washington Strom and Arthur Strom of Milan; Jimmy Strom and Willie Strom of McRae.
