Around 200 years ago the Stalter's(Stalder) left Germany to Switzerland for religious reasons.Some migrated to France back to Germany,Ireland and America's.Some came to America to farm. Other's to California to mine gold. Over 1/2 came to Ohio for the rich farm land.After leaving Germany and Switzerland, most changed the last name's to Americanlize them.Our grandfather John Henry Josef Anton Stalder(Stalter) migrated to Clayton Township in Perry County,Ohio prior to 1832 as his sister Mary Ann and her husband John Mutter were on Reading tax list in 1833.In 1845 John H. purchased 47 acres in the sw section in Reading Township,Perry County,Ohio He married Mary A. Stakley Sept.29,1835 There are some who say several stories about the marriage.Another story is he bought the land and married his neighbor.But all the records I have found is the one where he married her in Reading Township, Perry County,Ohio it is in the church records.John H, Stalter died Nov.11-1880 at the age of 71 yrs of stomach desease. Leaving his farm to his son Vincent and his wife Mary Ann Burgoon Stalter. Leaving money to his remaining children,Joseph, William Henry, Barbara Louisa, John F.,Mary Ann(Decot),Catherine(Bletzacker)and Elizabeth( she never married).Vincent died at the age of 45 of Tuberculosis leaving Mary Ann to raise James.Thomas Noah,Anna C,Pius,William, Mary Catherine,Charles E. Hellen E, Leo F.When Mary Ann died the farm was placed into an estate for 30 yrs.and was bought by John and Lillie Stalter(Charles"s son) The house in which John H.and family,and Vincent and family lived in was a very old log house in which there were no floors,and both were very poor families.They were both farmers.The land and house was in the St, Joseph's parish in Somerset, Ohio Perry County.John H. Parents Joannes Jacobus/Anton Stalder Anna Maria Lustenberger. John H.'s sister Anna Maria Stalder married Johann Mutter the 1850 census it shows Mary Stakley's father John Stakley living with John H.Stalter. His Age 75 all the acrage that belonged to John H. Stalter has been sold except for 5 acres that John and Lillie Stalter built a house on and that is still in the family. The log house was tore down a few years ago.
Dean's-Florence Dean became a nun and worked in Chicago,Samuel Dean at the time of the 1880 census was a school teacher; I also have a picture of him. Samuel moved to Nebraska, as did his sister Alice. In the 1880 census, James J. Dean is 26, living with his wife Juley (20) at his father's home;his occupation is listed as carpenter.Hugh Dean married Terrissa SHARKEY she was from Ireland her Mother's first name was Barbary. Hugh was from either Virginia or Maryland.His father was Charles Dean borned in Maryland around 1770 died around 1820.We was married to a Elenor. Charles had a brother Mason, They all settled in a place called Buckeye Valley,Clayton Twp,Perry County, Ohio.(Wherever that is,I am still searching)They settled in Perry County, Ohio.I am a desendant through his son James Joseph Dean. here is a list of Hugh and Terrissa's children Patrick(1838-)Alfred (1844-),Alice S(1848-),Mary L(1848-),Barbary(1851-),James Joseph (1854-1913),Samuel(1855-)Joseph, his wife Julia,and 2 of their children are buried in Southfork Cemetery,Perry County,Ohio. I know there is a Dean Cemetery unlocated in Hopewell Twp.I also know that Hughs death records say the following.Dean,Hugh-male-white-widowed-5/14/1888 76y 2m 14d -Pike Twp.I know that Terrissa died before him but was in the census in 1860.I know Hugh's dad was Charles Dean,Mother-Eleanor?,Brothers Masson(Mason)(Buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somerset,Ohio grave unmarked but records have him there),James and they all lived in and around Clayton Twp.and Hopewell Twp.I have more data like land deals and pictures not posted.
