The Maine Seekins' ancestry dates back to Aaron Seekins (1st)b. 1690 in Cambridgeshire, England. The Maine connection is through Aaron Seekins'(1st) grandson, Aaron b.1750, d. bef. 1840 in Maine. In 1970, Paul O. Seekins of Ohio published the Seekins genealogy, including all Seekins across the country, at least the ones that he found. However, some families in Maine, and elsewhere, were omitted because connections were lost. I hope to update Paul O. Seekins work, and add any lost connections into the line. As of Nov. 29, 2002, the entire Seekins genealogy as printed in the 1970 genealogy was added to this database. In addition, several lines omitted have been added and all lines have been updated as much as possible. In printed form, the document numbers up to 250 pages as of April 2006, depending on what program you use to print it out. This database has been privatized, deleting birth dates for living individuals as much as possible. If there is data in the text notes that needs to be privatized and hasn't been, please let me know. If Seekins descendants would like a full copy of the database to add to their own records, please contact me. If you or members of your family are Seekins descendants and not included here, please let us know. A new outline descendant tree for Aaron Seekins also was added in 2002. We've "met" several Seekins descendants across the country through this site and we know there are more out there. More data on these additional lines is coming in and will be added as it is available. If you're interested in helping us update the genealogy, we look forward to hearing from you. The descendants of Florence and S. Wesley Seekins, late of St. Albans, Maine, meet annually in August, and have now for 40 years. Any Seekins are welcome to join us. Please check for a date and location. In FEBRUARY 2004, I put out a last call for data to update the Seekins genealogy database. I had hoped it would be the last time I would add new data, but it just keeps coming. This summer (2008), time permitting, I'm trying (again) to finalize my contribution to the maintenance of the Seekins genealogy. More info has been added to my database since I was last able to update this site. I regret I am unable to update the posted database any further...I no longer use the program that created it. It's time for another generation. I expect (hope?) to publish what I have accumulated and share it in printed form. There will be a nominal fee for the publishing, of course. If you've promised Seekins data, please send it, email, fax, snail mail, whatever. If you don't... prepare to be left out of this compilation. Thanks for all the help and good luck on any continuing research. It appears many other, younger, generations have picked up the search...THANK YOU. I will be continuing my research for Maine-related information on Thompson, Nelson, McEwan, Eaton, Saunders, Colburn, Davis, Remick, Lord, Heald, Billings, and Young. |
