RAYMOND.She was born 1751, and died Bef. 1840 in Swanville, Waldo County, Maine, United States of America.
Notes for AARON SEEKINS:
Aaron & Tabitha resided at Plymouth (Mass.), and moved to Freetown shortly after which he served in the Revolutionary War, first enlisting April 19, 1775 as a private in Capt. Levi Rounsewell's Co. of Minutemen, service of three days; He also enlisted May 5, 1775, service of three months and four days.
With his wife and 4 sons, he migrated in 1785 to Strafford, Orange County, Vermont with a group of 14 families, sponsored by Timothy Blake, where they requested a land grant of Blake's Gore. They received land under the Charter for Blake's Gore on June 18, 1785, signed by Thomas Chittenden, Governor, in the ninth year of the sovereignty and independence of the State (according to State Papers of Vermont by Rawson C. Myrick).
In 1795, Aaron sold two parcels of land and moved to Sharon, Windsor Co., VT., to where his brother, Martin, had settled. Both purchased land there.
In 1811, he migrated to Bethany, Genesee Co., New York with his wife, and sons, Thomas and Heber and Thomas's wife, and a daughter, name unknown. His first son, John and his brother, Martin, had preceded him in 1808 and were in Batavia in the 1810 census. His second son, Ezekiel returned to Plymouth. His third, fourth and fifth sons migrated to Maine. His seventh son, Charles remained in Vermont.
Aaron Seekins had eight sons, three of whom, Benjamin, Josiah and William, migrated to Maine from Vermont shortly after 1800.
Benjamin and Josiah ultimately settled in Swanville, although they originally settled in Malta (Windsor) along with their father. Together they had 29 children who were the ancestors of all the Seekins families in Maine. Aaron and his wife, Tabitha apparently followed them or came with them and died at Swanville about 1830.
In the war of 1812, Aaron and his son, Heber, served for New York's state militia, Genesse Co., serving June 29 to July 15, 1812. Both served as privates in Capt. George Lathrop's Co. of the 164th Regiment, New York State Militia, commanded by Col. W. L. Churchill, organized in Genesee Co.
Sometime before 1820, Aaron and Tabitha and his only daughter returned to Vermont and on to Maine, where he lived briefly in Malta (Windsor) and ultimately moved to Swanville with Benjamin and Josiah. In 1830, they were listed in Swanville, he at age 82 and she 79. They both died sometime before 1840.
The location of the family homestead was found on a hill in western Swanville across an abandoned road from a Seekins cemetery. Aaron and Tabitha are presumed to be buried in that cemetery.
After finding another Seekins descendant in Swanville (1996), the cemetery sexton(Steve Clement) and his mother, we learned that Benjamin left Swanville with a religious group to create a new settlement at Enfield, and he reportedly is buried there (See info on Benjamin).
Mrs. Clement said she was descended from Aaron's son, Benjamin.
