Notes for Elmer "Emil" J. Bensch: THE POST-JOURNAL, Jamestown, NY, Tuesday 21 February 1984: "Obituaries - Elmil J. Bensch Sr. - Stockton - Elmer J. Bensch Sr., 82, of R.D. 2, Bruyer Road, Stockton, died Monday evening (Feb. 20, 1984) in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk. He was born Sept. 2, 1901, in Buffalo, the son of Emil J. and Pauline Fries Bensch. Bensch was a member of a Lutheran Church in Buffalo. He had served as deputy sheriff in Erie County and had been bailiff in Superior Court in Buffalo. Surviving are his wife, the former Charlotte Brightman, whom he married March 10, 1934, in Buffalo; two daughters: Carol Hardin of Cheektowaga and Diane Rosenow of Stockton; three sons: Elmil J. Bensch Jr. of Buffalo, Charles E. Bensch of Stockton and Marshall B. Bensch of Cassadaga; a foster son, Donald Edwards of Buffalo; 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald H. Bensch, in 1964; three sisters: Wilhemina Murray, Elizabeth Sage and Lena Sommers; and a brother, John Bensch. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. The Rev. Harley E. Acker, pastor of Stockton Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Cassadaga Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home."
