Sometime between 1850 and 1860 the family moved to Penn Forest Twp., in Carbon County. They were living there in 1870 & 1880. John worked as a laborer. John & Mary Ann are buried in Jerusalem Church Cemetery at Trachsville, Carbon County., Pa.

ARY ANN ALTEMUS:
Her name was shown in some records as "Marion." After her marriage, Mary Ann continued to live with her family in Ross Twp. Some time between 1850 and 1860, the family moved to Penn forest Twp., in Carbon Co. They were also living there in 1870 & 1880. John worked as a laborer. (See "The descendants of Hans Peter Altemus" by Dale Berger.)

23. LYDIA4 KLEINTOP (PETER3, CONRAD2, CHRISTOPHER1) was born May 3, 1822, and died September 21, 1898 in Albrightsville, Monroe County, Pa. She married JOHN PHILIP SCHOCH November 25, 1843 in Kunkletown, Pa, son of PHILIP SCHOCH and MARIA MIKLER.

Civil War veteran (GAR): Theodore Fenner Post #562 Dept of Pa Grand Army of the Republic - Organized Sept 20, 1887 at Sciota, Monroe Co. #96 Philip Schoch born in Berks Co. aged 68; res. Albrightsville. Enlisted Mar 7, 1864 Pvt B Reg 11 -Pa. Cavalry commanded by John W. Ford; Discharged Aug 13, 1865 Pvt Co B Regiment 11. Length of service 17 months. Cause of discharge - close of the war, in Philadelphia at or about the 19th day of August, 1865. At the time of his discharge, he was 57 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches; dark complexion; black hair; grey eyes. Date of Muster in GER Oct 3, 1891

After his death, on Oct 27th 1893, Lydia applied for his Army pension of $8.00 a month. she signed her name with an "X". Her marriage certificate was destroyed when her house burned down 13 years before. She stated Philip had rheumatism from the time he was in the Army during the Civil War. In the deposition, Philip resided in Carbon County for 35 years before his death. He also lived in Gilbert, Monroe County in 1883, when he first applied for disability. His regimental surgeon testified in May of 1882, that Philip was taken sick at Jones Landing, Virginia with inflammatory rheumatism from exposure while lying on the ground during the month of July 1864. Afterwards he was able to do light duty in camp until March 1865 where in front of (or near) Petersburg, Virginia his rheumatism assumed a more chronic characterisitic - affecting his upper as well as lower extremities and back. He was sent to Convalescent Camp, where he remained until May 13th, 1865, when he was sent back to his company at or near Charlottesville, Virginia. After that time he performed light duty until his discharge from the Regiment Aug 13th, 1865. His disability continued up to the day of discharge. Comrades and neighbors also testified. His family physican testified that Philip died of pheumonia with acute endocarditis caused by rheumatism.

The genealogy from the Historical Society does not contain all the names of their children, only nine were identified.
