Notes for Eve Ann Rutledge: After her husband's death, abt. 2 months after her daughter was born, Eve Ann was in dire financial circumstances and went to live with her mother Magdalena Knupp Rutledge (father Levi was in the Western Lunatic Asylum, Staunton, VA). In a letter to Peter Rutledge, Eve Ann asked him to send money to buy a sewing machine so she could earn money sewing. Apparently he did, for she later wrote thanking him for the money.
Betty Rutledge Johnson met Etta, daughter of Eve Ann Rutledge Bailey, in 1941; Etta, Betty said, was 88 years old. This age is surely somewhat inaccurate.
